How to Install WordPress
Installing a WordPress blog only requires a few easy steps.
- Download and unzip the latest version WordPress
- Upload the Wordpress files using your favorite FTP software
- Login into cpanel and create your database
- Rename the file wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php
- In the file wp-config.php input the name of your database along with the user name and database password and resave the file
- Vist yourdomain.com and run the installation script, you will be asked for the title of your blog along with your email address
- Your done. Make sure one of the first things you do after setup is to change your password. That can be located under Users-Your Profile
If your host offers WordPress as a one click install read the steps listed below.
Setting up WordPress using your hosts one click install
Many web hosts offer Wordpress as a one click install. This will save you the time of creating a databse and configuring the wp-config.php file.
The location of the one click installer varies between hosts.
- If using a cpanel based host, locate fantistico (it's usually a smiley faced button)
- If you happen to use Dreamhost, look under "Goodies"
When you locate the one click installer, you will be prompted to fill out a form with information pertaining to your blog.

If you plan to install WordPress in a folder, aka (yourdomain.com/blog/) then put the name of your folder in the box labeled "Install in this Directory". But if you plan to install WordPress on the main domain just leave that box blank.
The next set of inputs involes setting you your Admin access data.
- Set up your admin user name, Admin is usually sufficient
- Next setup your Admin password. Make this something thats easy for you to remember, but that no one else will be able to figure out.
Now you will need to setup the Base configuration for your blog.
- Your Admin nickname is the name thats shown when you publish a post. Look on my blog it's located under the post as Filed under - By
- Input your email address
- Insert the title of your blog
- Now a useful description

- This information is usually pre-filled in by your host, you will just need to insert the password for your email account.
Press "Install Wordpress"

Step 2 is just a confirmation of the information you entered in step one.
Click "Finish installation"

Congrats, your done. Wasn't that simple. Now login to your blog, have fun and enjoy your new life as a blogger.
